How to calculate your BMI?

Check your BMI

Your Body Mass Index is a rough guide to your level of total body fat.
Calculate your BMI by dividing your weight (kg) by your height in metres squared. e.g. 70kg divided by (1.7 x 1.7) = 24.2
This will give you an indication of where you fall in terms of weight ranges. If your BMI is:

  • less than 18, you are considered ‘underweight’.
  • between 18 and 25, this is the ideal weight range.
  • between 25 and 30, you are considered ‘overweight’.
  • above 30, your BMI suggests that your in the ‘obese’ weight range.
BMI is only a rough guide and can have some limitations. Men with high muscle mass and pregnant women should not use this as a guide, as their body fat levels can be overestimated, while the BMI for elderly people who have decreased lean muscle mass can underestimate fat levels. If you are concerned about your BMI, if you are underweight or overweight, why not Request a Consultation with one of our Springday Experts.
