What is your Waist-to-Hip Ratio?
Measuring your Waist-to-Hip Ratio looks at the distribution of fat around your abdominal area. Excess fat around the abdomen can increase your risk of heart disease, diabetes and other diseases.
People with an ‘apple’ body shape tend to have more fat tissue distributed about their abdomen, and as a result are at a higher risk, as their fat is stored close to their heart. If your WHR ratio is over 0.85 for women and 0.95 for men, then you are at an increased risk of heart disease and diabetes.
Diet and exercise can help to improve your lifestyle and reduce your WHR ratio to a healthier level.

- WAIST – stand up straight and relax your shoulders. To get the most accurate measure, place the tape measure around the smallest circumference of your waist, holding it taut but not squeezing the waist in. Record your waist measurement in the box below.
- HIPS – place the tape measure around the largest circumference of your hips, usually around the buttocks area. Hold the tape taut but do not squeeze your hips in. Record your hip measurement in the box below.
